Ricky Martin's major achievement has been open the doors for the Latin pop genre in the U.S., an opportunity many artists were waiting for in order to prove it was not just about one or two different styles. In fact, there was an entire underground movement trying to get a well-deserved place in the pop music scene. After all it doesn't matter what language you speak, what it really matters is how good you are as a performer.
Enrique Martin Morales was born in Puerto Rico on December 24, 1971. He started getting involved in show business at a young age, playing roles in tv commercials and later attending singing and acting classes. In 1984 he joined the teen-pop sensation act Menudo, group he left in 1989, moving to New York soon after. In Mexico he had the chance to play a main role in a popular soap opera. Ricky Martin's first solo record is released in 1991 followed by "Me Amaras" in 1993.

In January, 1994 he joined the cast of "General Hospital". A year later the salsa and flamenco-inflected "A Medio Vivir" is released, featuring the hit single "Maria". By early 1998 "Vuelve" sells seven million copies worldwide. His catchy performance at the 1999 Grammy Awards became a major event in his career, followed by the success of "Livin' La Vida Loca".

In 2000 "She Bangs" anticipated his album "Sound Loaded". In 2003 "Almas Del Silencio" is released, featuring the hit single "Tal Vez". In August, 2005 "I Don't Care", sung in both English and Spanish, becomes the first single out of "Life". In November, 2006 he receives the Person of the Year award at the
Latin Grammy 2006 in New York. "Ricky Martin MTV Unplugged" is released that same month, featuring "Tu Recuerdo" (video) and "Pégate" (video).
